The pleasant smell of the "Lebkuchen",
gingerbread, baked apples and beeswax – Christmas is in
the air. With almost childlike joy, locals and visitors
alike enjoy the Advent and its contemplative charm at
the atmospheric Christmas market, held each year in the
charming old town of Passau against the splendid
backdrop of the Cathedral of St. Stephen.
In the weeks before Christmas Eve the tastefully
decorated square in front of the Cathedral, offers a
unique flair and a range of high-quality products in
selected stalls. Discover the variety of different
crafts, artistic skills that have almost fallen into
oblivion and the taste of regional specialties. The
Passau Christmas Market will inspire you.
Local artists also present themselves and will keep
their studios and shops in the old town open during the
entire Advent season. A different window in town is
decorated each day by a local Passau artist, all of
which together form an Advent calendar.
Passau in the Christmas season exhibits various kinds of
mangers. In addition to traditional mangers, visitors
can marvel at contemporary mangers specially designed by
Passau artists as well as a "live manger". The pieces of
art related to the festive season are displayed at the
Passau Christmas Market, in the old town and town centre
of Passau, in churches and artists' workshops in the old
town. |
