Christmas carols, pine trees aglow and golden
glistening lights, the scent of steaming mulled wine and Bratwurst,
gingerbread and roasted chestnuts…manger scenes, Christmas decorations
and toys which would thrill any child – you’ll find all of these
delights in the unique and colourful Christmas market booths …
The Augsburg Christmas market is a treat for all your senses. A visitor
to Augsburg is fascinated instantaneously: Here, centred before the
romantic as well as impressive backdrop of the Renaissance City Hall and
the Perlach tower, under the gables of the gaily decorated patrician
houses with a giant Christmas Tree towering above all, you will discover
one of Germany’s most beautiful Christmas markets. Some even say: the
most beautiful. One point remains undisputed: it’s worth a visit – and
not only because of the more than 500 years tradition of the Christmas
market.
The unique ”village“ of booths watched over by the outstretched hand of
the bronze Renaissance sculpture of Augustus, the founder of the city,
is itself a highlight of the Christmas season. Alone the atmosphere of
Advent set to a romantic background is enough to make a visit to
Augsburg worth your time. But there’s more. Every Friday, Saturday and
Sunday at 6:00 p.m. the City Hall transforms into a gigantic Advent
calendar as the musical Augsburg angels appear above the lovingly
decorated Christmas market. |
