Triberg is not merely in the heart of the Black Forest –
in Triberg, the Black Forest is actually part of the
town! In fact, Germany’s highest waterfall cascades down
162 metres of granite rock against a backdrop of tall
pines in the very town centre.
Not surprisingly, Triberg is a hiker’s paradise, with
over 200 km of signposted hiking trails through the
nature reserves surrounding the town. The whole region
is a haven of peace and relaxation, with lovely,
invigorating air and above-average hours of sunshine.
The restaurants, too, offer delicious wholesome regional
food, and of course a wide range of the local Baden
wines.
Triberg is also on the German Clock Route, and the
town’s Black Forest Museum, one of the best heritage
museums in Germany, has an interesting collection of
clocks, musical clocks and clockwork organs. Visitors
will also want to visit the beautiful pilgrimage church
of “Maria in the Pinetree” standing above the Schonach
valley on the edge of town. The setting is very
picturesque, and the altars and other elaborate woodwork
of the interior are the work of some of the finest Black
Forest woodcarvers. |
